Astrid Carrete was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she developed a passion for equity and justice. She attended college at the University of New Mexico and law school at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law.

During law school, Astrid worked at the New Mexico Supreme Court as an intern for Chief Justice David K. Thomson. Upon completion of law school, she went on to clerk at the Colorado Supreme Court for Justice Maria E. Berkenkotter. After her clerkship, Astrid worked as a private civil defense attorney and as Counsel in the Executive Division of the New Mexico Department of Justice.

As a private civil defense attorney, Astrid represented doctors, nurses, and hospitals in medical malpractice actions, companies in cases involving trucking and automobile collisions, and other large corporations in actions involving allegations of unsafe premises. Astrid also had the honor of representing consumers in the very first antitrust class action in Chile.

As Counsel for the New Mexico Department of Justice, Astrid served as lead counsel in several complex civil and constitutional matters, including claims against social media giants for violations of New Mexico’s consumer protection laws. The civil rights portion of Astrid’s docket involved cases in several federal courts around the country brought by a coalition of numerous states against several government actors for violations of the United States Constitution and the Administrative Procedure Act. One of those cases went up to the United States Supreme Court.

Astrid has a demonstrated record of using her unmatched personal and professional experience and knowledge to advocate for wronged individuals at home and abroad.
